New Haven, Conn., March 5, 2010 - Public relations professionals have the opportunity to gain recognition for their work by entering the 2010 Mercury Awards, a competition sponsored by the Connecticut Valley, Southern Connecticut and Westchester/Fairfield Chapters of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The deadline for entries is Monday, April 12 at 5 p.m.

The competition, founded in 1997, is open to professionals in Connecticut, Westchester County and Lower Hudson Valley in New York, and southern Massachusetts, who are responsible for the creation of communications, marketing or public relations strategies or tactics. The Mercury Awards ceremony and dinner will be held on Thursday evening, June 10 at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven, Connecticut.

Any communication program or product produced in 2009 may be entered. One gold and silver winner may be awarded in each category. There are 21 categories in tactical, single-item entries and 10 categories of strategic campaigns, including special events and marketing products and services. Judges for the competition will be PRSA members from a sister chapter in the United States.

Nominations are also being accepted for Practitioner of the Year, honoring a PRSA member in the tri-chapter area who has significantly served the profession through a history of achievement, experience and reputation.

The Mercury awards have been created to recognize outstanding work in the public relations, communications and marketing disciplines. Named for the Roman god of commerce and travelers – the messenger and guide of the gods – the Awards are designed to honor creative and strategic excellence and to encourage a higher level of performance.
