Annual Meeting with Keynote Speaker Ryan Erenhouse of Edelman
The Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America welcomed its members and the community at large at its 2010 annual meeting on January 6. The luncheon featured Ryan Erenhouse, a senior vice president and deputy global client relationships manager at Edelman, who shared his experience in using brand ambassadors for public engagement with key customers. Edelman is a leading independent global public relations firm.
Hyperlocal: News In My Back Yard
A panel of journalism experts explored the burgeoning trend of hyperlocal news coverage when the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America presented “Hyperlocal: News In My Back Yard” on Thursday, September 24, in the Mancheski Executive Room in the Lender School of Business Center at Quinnipiac University.
Duby McDowell, the principal of Duby McDowell Communications, LLC of Hartford and a former award winning political reporter at WFSB-TV, Channel 3 and WVIT-TV, Channel 30, moderated the panel. McDowell also is editor of The Laurel, a flourishing blog that covers the media in Connecticut.

YouTube Star Michael Buckley Discuss Internet Entrepreneurship
Internet celebrity Michael Buckley, the host, writer and producer of “What the Buck?” the most-popular entertainment show on YouTube, served as the guest speaker at the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America’s next program.
Buckley discussed Internet entrepreneurship and the success of “What the Buck?” a YouTube program where he gives humorous commentary on popular culture. The show has more than 310,000 subscribers and 100 million views, and is the top-rated show on YouTube.
Buckley’s award winning YouTube show has led to deals with HBO, Sony Pictures and BlogTV. Buckley has appeared in magazines and newspapers including The New York Times discussing Internet entrepreneurship and The Advocate discussing homophobia on the Internet. He also recently appeared on CNN’s “American Morning” and is a correspondent for the E! Network.
