PRSA Greater Connecticut's 2020 Beacon Award

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 19, 2020) - The Public Relations Society of America Greater Connecticut Chapter is pleased to announce Gov. Ned Lamont as the winner of its 2020 Beacon Award for his communications response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PRSA Greater Connecticut Beacon Award honors a Connecticut executive who is not a communications professional but who understands and advocates for the value of communications and public relations to enhance the important connection between his or her organization and its customers, clients, employees and communities.

An Oct. 29 poll by Sacred Heart University and the Hartford Courant found 71% of state residents approve of how Gov. Lamont is communicating with the public regarding the pandemic and of his handling of the ongoing health crisis.

"Gov. Lamont demonstrated all of the best practices of communications: Be clear, be consistent, be credible, be concise, be candid, and above all be caring," said Derek Beere, president, PRSA Greater Connecticut.

"As our 'Communicator in Chief,' Gov. Lamont has continued to be visible, advocating for masks and social distancing to keep us safe, and shining the light on the people across Connecticut or making a difference to get us through this pandemic while remaining laser-focused on the latest data and spikes in Connecticut," he said.

The inaugural Beacon Award last year honored Nathan Grube, executive director of the Travelers Championship.
